The Season So Far

A Strong Campaign Up Front

It has been an action-packed 2026 season for Hoërskool Wonderboom, marked by explosive offensive displays, local derby intensity, and a double-championship push. The 1st Team dominated their local league to lift the A-Bond Stadsbeker (Blue Bulls Division 2), before advancing into the cross-provincial SDC Noordvaal Cup Playoffs where they secured a massive victory over Vryburg.

The 1st Team opened with a loss to Erasmus at the Noord-Suid Festival, then won five of their next six, including a 56–25 rout of Die Wilgers, before a run through the A-Bond Stadsbeker playoffs. A 17–10 win over Die Poort, a 0–29 exit to Menlopark, and a 21–21 draw with rivals HTS John Vorster followed. The side regrouped to lift the Stadsbeker with a 67–17 win over Tuine, then edged Vryburg 33–29 in the 1 August Noordvaal Cup playoffs. As of the 2 August Ruggas.co.za update, the 1st Team sits at #121 nationally.

The real story is the pipeline. The u/16A, u/16B and u/14A sides all finished their league campaigns top of the log, with u/14A advancing through the playoffs on a tense 15–15 draw with Frikkie Meyer. The 2nd XV (4th) and u/14B (2nd) rounded out a strong year across the board.

    The Future Is Bright

Spotlight On The Wonnies' Junior Pipeline

While the 1st Team lifting the Stadsbeker grabbed the headlines, the real story of Hoërskool Wonderboom's 2026 season is the dominance of the junior structures. The development pipeline proved to be one of the most lethal in the SDC Noordvaal Cup (Division 2), with the u/16A, u/16B and u/14A sides all finishing their regular league campaigns at the top of the log.

The u/16A Juggernaut. The u/16A side has been the standout squad of the year, carrying momentum from pre-season preparations at the Danie Rossouw Rugby Week (DRRW) in April, where they tested themselves against schools like Bergvlam. Through the local league they dismantled their Pretoria rivals, cruising to a 40–7 win over Die Wilgers and grinding out a tough 17–13 derby win against Pretoria-Noord. In the Noordvaal Cup playoffs on 1 August, they faced Limpopo powerhouse Hoërskool Ben Viljoen and edged out a 28–26 victory to advance deeper into the knockout stages.

The u/14 Rising Stars. The u/14A side topped their league log, then ground out a tense 15–15 draw against Frikkie Meyer in the playoffs to advance.

Depth Across The Board. The u/14B side finished 2nd on their log and the 2nd XV finished 4th, showing the depth of the program heading into the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
